St. Mary Catholic Book Reading Group began in 2003 and has read and discussed nearly 100 books! The group’s purpose is to promote reading books by Catholic authors of theology, history, fiction, or containing subjects of particular interest to Catholics, such as the right to life or bioethics. This month’s selection is The Priest Barracks by Gauillaume Zeller. Zeller’s book chronicles the tragedies and the magnificent gestures of the Nazi concentration camp, Dachau, which housed 2,579 Catholic priests, monks, and seminarians from all over Europe. More than a third of the prisoners in the "priest block" died there. Besides recounting moving episodes, the book sheds new light on Hitler's system of concentration camps and the intrinsic anti-Christian animus of Nazism. The group will meet on Friday, March 9 to discuss the book at 11:30am in Room 102 of the Parish Life Center. Even if you have not completed this book, please consider joining! New members and title recommendations are always welcomed!
